Ready to find out what MSU Denver can do for you? We’ve got you covered.
The following is pertinent information for donors and recipients regarding the processing of private scholarships at the Metropolitan State University of Denver. There are hundreds of external scholarships provided by organizations that are not specifically affiliated with MSU Denver such as charitable foundations, labor unions, memorial scholarships, your local high school, state and federal government and many others.
Students must be in good academic standing for most scholarships to be credited to the student’s account.
To understand our Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy, please view our undergraduate student page or our graduate student financial aid page as applicable.
Scholarship checks should be made payable to the Metropolitan State University of Denver and reference the recipient’s name(s) and MSU Denver student ID number(s) at the bottom of the check or on a separate letter. Note: making checks co-payable between the student and the university will delay disbursement of the scholarship funds to the student’s account.
Please provide the full name(s), contact person(s), address and phone number of your organization so that we can contact you if necessary.
If the student does not enroll, we will return the funds to the donors after census date, which occurs two weeks after the first day of classes each semester. If the donor requires verification of enrollment please contact the Office of the Registrar.
If the donor requires an invoice before a check can be issued, please contact the Office of the Bursar.
It is the student’s responsibility to pay their bill on time. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will not waive late and service charges on scholarship payments that arrive in our office after the bill due date.
If the donor requires grade transcripts at the end of each semester, they should contact the scholarship recipients. It is the responsibility of the student to provide copies of their transcripts to their donors.
The MSU Denver Foundation offers hundreds of privately funded scholarships to students every year, based on academics, achievement and financial need. The only way to apply for this is through our online application system. The priority deadline to complete the general scholarship application process is May 15. Scholarship applications received on or before May 15 are given priority consideration in the awarding process. Scholarship applications received after this date may still be considered. We encourage you to apply even if you miss the extended May 15 priority date. There are individual scholarship opportunities that have a due date beyond the General Scholarship Application priority date.

The Displaced Aurarian (DAAPP) Scholarship program is designed to provide funds for tuition and fees for students who were residents of the Auraria neighborhood at the time the campus was first built, between 1955 and 1973. The program also extends to all direct descendants of these residents. Students who plan on transferring to a four-year institution on the Auraria Campus need to contact that institution to see if they meet the criteria for the Displaced Aurarian Scholarship.
The Displaced Aurarian Scholarship will cover the student’s share of in-state tuition and fees for regular classes up to 18 credit hours taught at the downtown Auraria Campus only. Recipients can utilize the award for 1st bachelor and master’s degrees. Students taking online classes will only receive the equivalent of the cost of on-campus in-state tuition and fees, minus COF.
The Displaced Aurarian Scholarship will be awarded after Census Date (approximately 2 weeks after classes begin) every fall and spring semester. Submission of the DAAPP application in no way guarantees a Displaced Aurarian Award at MSU Denver at any point.
