The MSU Denver Teaching Assistant (TA) program provides students with the opportunity to assist faculty in their course(s) by taking on a variety of instruction-related tasks. These experiences, which expose TAs to the dynamics and complexities associated with teaching and learning at the university level, often include assisting faculty with course planning and course planning and development, and facilitating individual classes, and and providing support to students inside and outside of class.

Faculty

Faculty in any discipline can apply for funding and select a student they would like to have as a Teaching Assistant. Typically, faculty select students who have done well in their courses and/or have come highly recommended from colleagues in their department. TA responsibilities may vary, but can include:

  • holding office hours
  • leading discussions
  • identifying students who need extra support
  • attending class
  • working on class content
  • developing pedagogical skills
  • and more.

If you are an MSU Denver faculty member and are interested in applying for funds to support an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, please respond to the call for applications email. The call for TAs is distributed via email each semester in April and November and includes a link to the application. Please note that this application is time sensitive and must be submitted before the deadline to be considered.

Teaching Assistants will be paid up to a maximum of $2,000 for the semester. In Spring of 2023, TAs are being paid for a total of 110 hours for the semester at $18 per hour.

Students

Students interested in working as a TA are encouraged to speak directly with a faculty member about the opportunity to become their Teaching Assistant.
